a subatomic particle. It is the signature particle of the Higgs field, which gives mass to other particles. Its discovery was announced by scientists at CERN on 4.7.2012
The Higgs boson appears in a theory first fleshed out in 1964 by Peter Higgs at Edinburgh University and five other physicists.
