English Study Dictionary
Brian Heaton
ELEMENTARY
This elementary dictionary is designed for junior learners of English.
It defines 2,500 English words through clearly laid out, simple
explanations which only use words which appear in the dictionary.
If a word has more than one meaning these are numbered.
Each word is shown with helpful examples of how it can be used
in a sentence and in many cases is supported by fun illustrations
and cartoons. Collocations of words show common ways in which the
headword is used which will help students choose the correct context
in which to use new words.
A simple Guide to Pronunciation and a section of Grammar Notes
are included in the front of the dictionary as a useful reference
guide for students to words and symbols they will come across whilst
using the dictionary.

Macmillan Student’s
Dictionary
M. Manser
INTERMEDIATE
This dictionary is written for students with a basic knowledge of the
English language but who have not yet reached an advanced level of ability.
It is primarily aimed at students learning English as a Second Language
to help them with English used in a variety of mainstream subjects.
Greater attention is therefore given to ‘study language’
– words and phrases which are common to many subjects – than
is usual in dictionaries of a similar size.
This completely revised edition includes:
- Up-to-date and international coverage of 2,000 new entries
- Clear, attractive layout with beautifully accurate line drawings of
many words (120 new illustrations in this edition)
- Restricted defining vocabulary, so students looking up a word will
not find five more they do not know
- Example sentences to help explain usage where this presents a problem
- A useful guide to pronunciation and help with word formation
- Cross-references to show related words

ABC of Common Grammatical
Errors
Nigel D. Turton
INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED
The ABC of Common Grammatical Errors is a practical reference
book which provides teachers and learners with easy access to the information
they need to correct their grammatical errors.
Common errors made by learners of various language backgrounds in their
system grammar (subject-verb agreement, tense use, the passive, question
forms) and word grammar (e.g. usage) are combined in the ABC in single
alphabetical arrangement.
Errors have been gathered from a large corpus of written texts produced
by learners at intermediate and advanced levels of proficiency. These
can include some surprisingly elementary errors.
The models of correct usage follow British English, with American English
usage described in the relevant entries.
