22nd January 2002
Tuesday January 22nd saw the first official launch of the Macmillan English Dictionary take place in Bangkok. To mark the launch of the new English dictionary teachers and booksellers were invited to enjoy High Tea at the Siam City Hotel. Sixty teachers and university lectures, including members of the Thailand TESOL executive committee, came to the launch as well as over twenty booksellers. The event started with an opening by Clyde Fowle, ELT Consultant/Trainer for Macmillan Thailand, who welcomed the guests and said how proud he was to be hosting the first launch of the Macmillan English Dictionary in the world. This was followed by an introduction to the dictionary by Gwyneth Fox, associate editor, who outlined the key features of the dictionary and then answered several interesting questions from the audience.
Then participants were invited to partake in the High Tea selection, which included sandwiches, scones and cream and a variety of other delicacies, which everyone seemed to enjoy. Unfortunately Gwyneth did not get to enjoy her tea as no sooner had she taken a sip someone came to ask her to sign their complementary copy of the dictionary. This led to a mammoth book signing session that lasted until the last participants left.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the afternoon having an opportunity to find out about the new Macmillan English Dictionary, catch up with one another, and enjoy the High Tea.
