I is used as the subject of a verb. In very formal English, I can be used after the verb ‘to be’, especially before a relative clause: It is I who will suffer.
  1. used for referring to yourself when you are the person speaking or writing

    I don’t like cats.

    I didn’t hurt you, did I?

    Peter and I will do the cooking.
