    the style of language used in newspaper headlines, which tries to save space by leaving out words such as 'the'; for example 'PM hails breakthrough in pay talks'

    Just as an example, headlinese uses the infinitive to mark the futurein declarative sentences and allows singular count NPs withoutdeterminers ("Obamas to buy puppy"), but these are ungrammaticalstructures in English.
