Two
very different approaches to learning to read.
The phonics approach emphasizes the relationship
between letters and sounds: for example, sounding the letters
of the word cat as:
c-a-t.
The whole word (or look and say) approach
teaches children to recognize individual words, not the sounds
of the letters in words.
