studied theoretical linguistics at the universities of Newcastle
and York,
specialising ultimately in the relationship between language and
gender.
In 1990, after teaching English
in state and private schools in Montpellier
and Béziers,
France, he returned to England and joined the recently-established
dictionary department of the University Press in Cambridge,
where he worked as a lexicographer and editor on the print and
electronic editions of the Cambridge International Dictionary
of English and the Cambridge Learner's Dictionary.
Guy also freelanced on the Senseval
and VerbNet projects, and advised on Americanisms in British
English for the third edition of the Norstedts
Comprehensive English-Swedish Dictionary.
In March 2001, Guy moved to Oxfordshire
and joined Macmillan
Education, taking on the dual role of Internet Editor for
Resource
Sites and Managing Editor of the CD-ROM
edition of the Macmillan English Dictionary and
Macmillan Essential Dictionary. |
